João Pina explores global socio-political changes and human rights abuse through the language of visual memory. Exhibited internationally, his images have also appeared in the New York Times, the New Yorker, and El País, among others. At the time of his visit to Ragias’ apartment João was working on his project Tarrafal, which draws upon his family history to explore the story of the Portuguese concentration camp at Tarrafal, Cape Verde.
